Scripps Encinitas hospital workers are working tirelessly to aid and lift up patients during the COVID-19 surge. You can lift their spirits and support local businesses that continue to be impacted by lockdown restrictions with one act of kindness! In mid-December Encinitas resident Syndee Wood quickly mobilized a group of neighbors and friends interested in supporting ICU staff with hot meals from local restaurants as they worked long hours to help patients suffering from COVID-19.  What started as a one-time effort has since raised thousands of dollars from many contributors to purchase meals from Encinitas restaurants, and support scores of ICU, ER, and hospital staff at Scripps Memorial Hospital. The double bottom line nourishes our frontline workers while keeping important and treasured local eateries in business.  Scroll through pictures of the initiative’s impact in the gallery to the right!

Corner Pizza in Leucadia teamed up with Feeding Our Frontline Heroes in an effort to send maximum pizzas to the hospital. They held a pizza match fundraiser that raised enough funds to donate 72 pizzas to the hospital. That’s a lot of pizza!

We have felt so overwhelmed and the support from the community helps us feel stronger in dealing with this, the most challenging issue we have ever faced in the healthcare profession. Just that alone, in addition to the food, gives us strength and helps us keep going on.

As a result of the pandemic, I’ve often felt powerless to ease anyone’s suffering or hardship. This project has helped me to feel empowered again, in safe and meaningful ways, by supporting the frontline workers who are working tirelessly to help as many people as they can. The small business owners who greet me with boxes of food and gratitude for a large order remind me that some of us need word of mouth and money as support right now. The nurses who come to my car to pick up the meals I am delivering are overwhelmed with gratitude because good morale and community support is what they need right now. 

This heartwarming project has been an incredibly rewarding experience for our awe-inspiring frontline heroes, our struggling local restaurants, and our generous community members all at once. I am truly honored, and so very grateful, to be a part of this amazing collaboration of community caring and kindness.
