Please Join Us in Giving Aid to Hurricane Victims in the Southeast

Hurricane Helene’s storm surge, wind damage, and inland flooding have been catastrophic. They have flooded neighborhoods, stranded residents, and destroyed homes in Florida, Georgia, South Carolina, North Carolina, Virginia, and Tennessee. At least 130 people were killed, and hundreds have not yet been found. Rescue efforts are underway to save people trapped in homes, and shelters are being opened to help those displaced. Millions of people are without power.

Monetary donations are needed for medical support, food, bottled water, generators, and cleaning supplies for short-term emergencies. Recovery and rebuilding are expected to take years.

Below are some opportunities to give tax-deductible emergency support to those most in need through organizations we evaluated:

  • Jewish Federation of San Diego
Federation has established a Hurricane Helene Emergency Relief Fund to provide critically needed aid to both Jewish and non-Jewish communities affected by this devastating storm. Federation will absorb all administrative costs, ensuring that 100% of your donation directly supports relief efforts. The network of Jewish federations in North America is incredibly experienced and well-respected in disaster relief and has been used for expertise in emergencies for decades.
  • Chabad of Asheville
Delivering food, water, and supplies to those in need and assisting those who have lost contact with friends and relatives. Many Jews are reported as missing, and the need is still urgent as Hurricane Helene has left many without power and basic necessities.
  • United Way of Asheville and Buncombe County
Working with local government and the Emergency Operations Center to mobilize volunteers and ensure NC 2-1-1 (North Carolina’s non-emergency info line) has up-to-date resources for callers seeking information and assistance.
  • Humane Society of the United States
Deploying animal rescue teams to locations across the Southeastern United States to transport animals to safety, help devastated shelters, and provide food, resources, and veterinary care to hard-hit communities.

Jewish tradition teaches that to save one life is to save an entire world. As we approach a new year in the Jewish calendar with hope, please join us in helping those in crisis who have lost everything. During times of sudden emergency and disaster, let’s pull together and step forward to help those in need.

Please let us know if you donate to any of these organizations.

Thank you for helping to repair these communities.
