City of San Marcos concludes 2021 with an additional round of COVID-19 Nonprofit Community Grants

The City of San Marcos awarded grants for the fourth consecutive month through its $3 million COVID-19 Nonprofit Community Grant Program. Since the program commenced in September, approximately $1.6 million has been dispersed to San Marcos nonprofits that provide vital services to our community.

The December recipient agencies are listed below. The program awards funding to essential nonprofits that serve San Marcos residents who have been disproportionately impacted by the pandemic.

The City of San Marcos will continue to award grants monthly until the $3 million of funding is exhausted. San Marcos is honored to support numerous nonprofits in our community.

“The Grants Committee is honored to have awarded 63% of available program funding since our September launch,” said Sharyn Goodson, program administrator. “We are inspired by the work of our recipient organizations, which are meeting community member needs in profound ways. We look forward to continuing to grant with diligence and urgency in 2022.”

Here’s a snapshot of the impact the COVID-19 Nonprofit Community Grant Program is making in the community:

Interfaith Community Services

“Interfaith Community Services meets the needs of families in crisis with emergency food supplies as well as utility and rental assistance,” said Greg Anglea, CEO of Interfaith Community Services. “We offer more than 75 different programs and services to support the greater North County community. Since the onset of the pandemic, we have witnessed an increase in need among our San Marcos residents. We are thankful for the opportunity to deploy an additional $100,000 in community support to address the needs of our San Marcos neighbors.”

TERI Inc.

“TERI Inc. is honored to receive grant funding for the development of an outdoor fitness court on our future Campus of Life site in San Marcos,” said Kim Jacklin, Chief Development and Marketing Officer of TERI Inc. “We provide services and support to enhance the quality of life for individuals with developmental disabilities. The Campus of Life introduces opportunities to learn and explore so personal potential will be transformed into individual achievement.”

Community Resource Center

“The Community Resource Center supports our neighbors in creating paths to healthy food, stable homes and safe relationships,” said John Van Cleef, CEO of Community Resource Center. “It will take everyone working together to address the essential needs of our residents, and we are immensely thankful to the City of San Marcos for their demonstrated concern for vulnerable individuals and generous contribution to our programs.”

About the COVID-19 Nonprofit Community Grant Program

The COVID-19 Nonprofit Community Grant Program was established after the San Marcos City Council committed $3 million of federal American Rescue Plan Act (ARPA) funds to provide needed assistance through grants to nonprofits. The overall funding objective is to touch every corner of the city by supporting nonprofits working to better the lives of San Marcos residents. Target populations include underrepresented communities containing (but not limited to) youth, low-income individuals and families, seniors, immigrants and active military and veteran families.
